Marianne Kraugerud

Histopathology Manager, Norway

Marianne obtained her veterinary degree from University of Bristol in 2003. Marianne has worked almost 10 years at NMBU, The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, where she completed a PhD in environmental toxicology and a residency in veterinary pathology. She is a board-certified veterinary pathologist from the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (DiplECVP). Marianne has worked in fish pathology since 2015. Her main focus is diagnostic histopathology and histopathology projects. Marianne is the manager of the histopathology service in Norway.   

Mette Hofossæter

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Mette graduated as a veterinarian from Szent István University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, in 2014. After graduating, Mette worked in the fish health service for almost two years. In 2016, she started a PhD at NMBU focusing on how novel feed components affect the intestinal health of Atlantic salmon. Mette became part of the histology team at Pharmaq Analytiq in 2019 and works daily with histopathological diagnostics in salmonids and cleaner fish. In addition, she is involved in research projects concerning gut and gills. 

William Reed

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

William qualified as a veterinarian from NMBU in 2020. In his final year as a veterinary student, William specialized in aquatic medicine and wrote his student thesis on important challenges concerning the production of tilapia in a global perspective. William started his working career as a veterinary pathologist in Pharmaq Analytiq in January 2021. He is focused on both diagnostics and pathology support in research projects.   

Anne Katrine Reed

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Anne Katrine graduated as a veterinarian from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in Oslo ( now NMBU) in 2014 with specialization in aquatic medicine. After graduation, Anne Katrine practiced in a veterinary clinic as a companion-animal veterinarian. In 2018 she joined the Pharmaq Analytiq histopathology team. She works with histopathologic routine diagnostics on salmonids and other aquatic species. In addition, Anne Katrine is involved in research projects regarding kidneys and nephrocalcinosis and skeletal deformities in salmonids.  

Hege Hellberg

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Hege graduated from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, Oslo (now NMBU - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) in 1990. She has a PhD in fish anatomy. Hege has worked with fish and aquaculture since 1990, including fish health service, regulatory work, research, teaching and diagnostic services. Prior to her employment in Pharmaq Analytiq, she worked for 18 years at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute with diagnosis of fish and shellfish diseases. She was also in charge of the national surveillance programs for aquatic animal diseases. Hege has extensive experience in the use of histology, bacteriology and PCR for diagnosis of fish diseases and has been involved in research projects on nutrition and intestinal health. Marine fish species are a particular interest.  

Kai-Inge Lie

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Kai-Inge graduated from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (now NMBU) in 1997, has a PhD in veterinary pathology and is a board-certified veterinary pathologist from the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (DiplECVP). He has worked with us since 2014. Kai-Inge has extensive experience from working in pathology and routine diagnostics on domestic animals, poultry and farmed fish from the Norwegian Veterinary College and the National Veterinary Institute. 

On daily basis Kai-Inge works with histopathological diagnostics on salmonids, cleaner fish and other species. He is involved in research projects on nephrocalcinosis, gill health and machine learning and has extensive experience in scoring changes in infection trials with HSMB, CMS and PD. 

Helene Wisløff

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Helene graduated from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (now NMBU) in 1992 and has a PhD in veterinary pathology from 2008. She has worked with diagnostic pathology on domestic animals at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute since 1996 and started in Pharmaq Analytiq in 2020.   

Helene works with histopathological diagnostics on salmonids, cleaner fish and other species. In addition, she has experience in scoring histopathological changes in infection trials with CMS and PD.  

Marta Alarcón

Veterinary Pathologist, Norway

Marta graduated from the University Autonoma of Barcelona in 2001 and has a master’s in aquatic medicine from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (now NMBU) from 2009. She has worked with fish and aquaculture since 2001, including fish health service, research and diagnostic services. She worked 5 years as fish veterinarian in the Mediterranean before moving to Norway to work at the National Veterinary Institute with diagnostic of fish diseases. Marta became part of our histology team in 2017 and works daily with histopathological diagnostics and customer projects.  

James Hoare

Histopathology manager in UK and Ireland

James graduated as a veterinarian from the Royal Veterinary College in London and has a Master’s degree in Aquatic Veterinary Studies from the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture. James joined Fish Vet Group in 2007 and was formerly Head of Clinical Services in the UK before his relocation to the United States in 2012 where he led the veterinary operations for North America. He returned to the United Kingdom in January 2015 to undertake a residency in veterinary anatomic pathology at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh. After completing his residency in 2018, James has been working as a senior veterinary pathologist for Pharmaq Analytiq Ltd (UK). James is a board-certified anatomic pathologist from the American College of Pathologists (DiplACVP).  

Marianne Pearson

Veterinary Pathologist, UK and Ireland

Marianne graduated as a veterinarian from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh and has a Master’s degree and PhD from the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture (IOA). After completing her studies Marianne joined the staff at the IOA working in the diagnostic unit and as a Veterinary Research Fellow and GLP Study Director. Marianne has also worked as a veterinary surgeon for two of Scotland’s leading producers of Atlantic salmon. Her experience spans more than thirty years in both the research and commercial aspects of the global aquaculture industry. Marianne joined the Fish Vet Group in 2009 and specialises in histopathological diagnostics.

Susie Mitchell

Aquatic Veterinarian and Veterinary Pathologist, Ireland

Susie Mitchell studied science at Trinity College Dublin and was awarded her M.A. in Zoology in 2000. She went on to study veterinary medicine at University College Dublin from which she graduated in 2005. Susie has worked nearly exclusively in aquatic animal practice since graduating, first for Vet Aqua International, followed by Fish Vet Group and she now works for Pharmaq Analytiq in Ireland. Susie attained a PhD in gill disease in Atlantic salmon and is a diplomate of the European Council of Aquatic Animal Health since 2016. Her main focus is practical diagnostic histopathology for clinical cases in Ireland.   

Carolina Gutierrez-Rabadan

Aquatic veterinary surgeon and Veterinary Pathologist , Ireland

Carolina Gutierrez graduated in 2012 from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she developed a strong interest in fish diagnosis and pathology. She collaborated in different health research projects in the Fish Diseases and Diagnosis Service within the UAB. In 2014, she obtained her Master of Science in Aquaculture in Barcelona with a 6-month placement in Scotland. Carolina worked 4 years as fish health manager and cleaner fish veterinarian with Marine Harvest (Scotland) Ltd.  before enrolling to a PhD in lumpfish welfare with Swansea University. She completed her PhD and joined Pharmaq Analytiq Ireland in 2021.

Barbara Etcharren

Technical Manager

Barbara graduated as a veterinarian from Universidad Católica de Temuco, in 2007 and has completed a diploma in Veterinary Epidemiology of Universidad de Chile, in 2015 focused on fish populations. She has 16 years work experience in different areas such as technical support in  salmon farms, private and governmental positions, commercial support in quality control as well as laboratory and fish diagnostics. Has worked with productive and mortality data analyses of the most important salmon companies in Chile for 6 years (2010-2016) at the Benchmarking department in SGS Chile and the last 6 years being dedicated to histopathology and diagnostics. She worked for PHARMAQ Analytiq UK during 2021 reading and reporting histology cases for the Scottish Aquaculture sector. She is leading the Fish Pathology Team in Chile as head of the Histology, Clinical Pathology and Anatomo-Pathology areas in PHARMAQ Analytiq Chile. 

Mar Marcos-Lopez

Veterinary Pathologist, UK and Ireland

Mar graduated from the University Autonoma of Barcelona in 2007 and has a Master’s degree in Aquatic Veterinary Studies from the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture. Mar worked as a fish and shellfish histopathologist at Marine Scotland in Aberdeen from 2010 to 2013. She then moved to Ireland to join Vet-Aqua International (now Pharmaq Analytiq), where she worked as a clinical veterinarian and histopathologist for the Irish aquaculture industry until 2019. She also completed a PhD on “Host response of Atlantic salmon gills to Neoparamoeba perurans, causative agent of amoebic gill disease in 2017 at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. Mar relocated to the Scottish team in 2019, and works daily with histopathological diagnostics on salmonids, cleaner fish and other species.

Tom Turnbull

Veterinary Pathologist, UK and Ireland

Tom graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Glasgow University and spent 9 years in veterinary practice in the UK.  He obtained a Master’s degree in Aquatic Veterinary Studies at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling in 1991.  He remained at the Institute of Aquaculture as Veterinary Clinical Officer in the Diagnostic Service for 5 years before becoming the veterinary surgeon for Scottish Sea Farms in 1995.  He joined the Fish Vet Group (now Pharmaq Analytiq) in Scotland in 2014.
